DescriptionTranscriptDescriptionHair Stylist Robin Harmon discusses the straight look hairstyle for prom. TranscriptRobin Lee Harmon: Hi! My name is Robin Lee Harmon with Tangerine Dream Beauty Bar. Today, we are going to be going over some prom looks. Our first look is going to be on straight hair and how to wear it in a down-style. Our model is Carla, she has very straight hair as you can see. Its very heavy and its very thick. What we are going to do is I am going to show you different products to use to make the hair a little bit more mold-able to, so that its easier for you to work with yourself, when you are at home working with your hair. I feel this is one of the problems people come to me where they dont really know how to get their hair to hold and set in a certain look. I am going to show you that. Its mainly using the right products and the right tools. So Carlas hair is clean and dry, which is the hair that you want to work with when you are working with a down-style or even when you are working with any up-style. What we are going to do now is we want to get her hair dirty and we are going to do that by using a mousse. You want to make sure that you are using a lot of products on the hair. It seems like it is going to be too much, when you are actually working with it, but really this is the only way that you are going to get the hair to do what you want it to do. You are going to want to work in sections. You can just lift up your hair and spray the bottom layer and then the underneath of the other layer, which would be through here. Dont be afraid of the product. I think a lot of people sometimes dont use enough product, when they are trying to set their hair. After you use this product, the trick is to actually dry it into the hair because the hair feels a little bit damp right now. So what we want to do is we are going to go ahead and blow dry this product into the hair. Thats going to give the hair a different texture. So it is going to be easier to work with.So now the hair is not so silky soft. Now it has a little bit more texture to it, so that way its going to be easier for me to work with and get the style that I want, to get that style to hold as well. I am going to go ahead and comb through the hair, so that we can get rid of any tangles that might have occurred while we blew dry the hair. So now what we are going to do is find the part that she prefers to wear and also the side of the hair that lays a little bit better because we are going to pull it a little bit flat. There is one side, you typically know which it is that works better for that. So we are going to go ahead and figure out which side Carla likes to part her hair on and what works best for the style.Typically, it is easy to find a part when you are pulling the hair straight back and then you push it forward. You can see where it may separate. Since she already wears her hair parted on this side, that’s the side that we are going to go with. Now because this is prom, I am going to go ahead and see if we can go with a little bit more drama. When you want to have a little bit more drama in a look, you can make the side part a little bit further over, which is what we are going to try and see if this works for Carla. So instead of where we were which was about here, I am going to come over a little bit further, which is not typically where she probably wears her part, but for this look, it does give the little bit more drama when you have a further side part. So now to set it a little bit, I am going to go ahead and use a hair spray. You dont want to use one that’s very strong right now when you are working with your hair. You want to use hair sprays that are working sprays; meaning that they are not for holding the style, but are actually for working with the hair. Some will say, a working hair spray. So look for that when you are working with hair sprays. Use your hand to smooth down any flyaway, after you spray with the hair spray. So now what we are going to do is we are going to go into the look and I am going to start about 2 inches back from the hairline. So you can see here; Carla you look down; You can see this is her hairline. Now we have come back, maybe inch and a half, you can judge yourself where it feels comfortable in that because from here we are actually going to have a little bit of a 60s kick. So you want to have this nice fly area and behind it, we are going to have a little bit of a lift.So what we are doing is we are going to follow that part down into the neckline. Then just hold onto this hair and continue. You can see the hair that I am separating out. Then you are going to connect it to where we started, which would be up through here. Can I have you look down? So you can see all these hairs, we are separating from pretty much 2 inches around the head from the actual hairline. So basically what is going to happen is this is going to be lifted and this hair is going to be flat in here. So make sure you like this look, you can press the hair up. Make sure you like the way thats separated, before you go onto the next step.
